Sharif Osman Bin Hadi
Revolutionary July Fighter & Spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, also known as Osman Ghani, was a Bangladeshi politician, teacher, and social activist. He was known as the spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch and one of the organizers of the July 2024 mass uprising. He was assassinated in Paltan, Dhaka on 12 December 2025 and died on 18 December at Singapore General Hospital.
- Early Life & Education
Osman Hadi was born on June 30, 1993, in Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalokati District. His father was a madrasa teacher and local imam. He was the youngest of six siblings. Growing up in a religious environment, Osman Hadi passed the Alim examination from Jhalokati NS Kamil Madrasa. He later enrolled in the Political Science Department of Dhaka University in the 2010-2011 academic year.
- Professional Life
After completing his studies at Dhaka University, he joined the University of Scholars as a lecturer in the Business Studies Department. Alongside teaching, he was actively involved in social and political activities.
- Political Life
During the July 2024 revolution, he played an important role as the coordinator of the Rampura area. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, he emerged as one of the founders of Inqilab Moncho and began serving as the spokesperson of the organization from August 13. He was vocal in demanding the constitutional ban of Awami League from politics and had announced his candidacy as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency in the 2026 national election.
- Martyrdom
A planned armed attack was carried out on Rif Osman Hadi in the Paltan area of Dhaka on December 12, 2025. He was attacked by masked miscreants while riding a rickshaw shortly after leaving a mosque that day. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers on a motorcycle shot him in the head at close range and quickly fled. At the time of the attack, Sharif Osman Hadi was actively campaigning as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming February 2026 parliamentary elections. A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the attack. The ongoing investigation by the police and RAB has identified two people named Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain as directly involved in the attack. According to sources involved in the investigation and allegations by the activists, Faisal Karim Masud was an activist associated with the banned Awami League and the attack was planned for political purposes. In addition, the investigation has revealed that each person detained with Faisal was somehow involved before and after the attack. RAB arrested Faisal Karim Masud’s wife Samia, his friend Monica and his brother-in-law Shipu in this incident. It is also alleged that Faisal’s parents also helped him go into hiding and escape safely after the attack. Therefore, they were also detained and questioned as part of the investigation. After being shot, he was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to Evercare Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Singapore General Hospital by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced neurosurgical treatment. A team of doctors from Singapore General Hospital and National Neuroscience Institute kept him on life support and provided him with the highest level of treatment. However, according to the doctors, he suffered irreversible brain damage and multiple organ failure. Six days after the attack, on December 18, 2025, Sharif Osman Hadi, at the age of 32, died during an operation at Singapore General Hospital.
Janaza & Burial
On December 20, 2025, his Janaza prayer was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament (Manik Mia Avenue) after Zuhr prayers, attended by millions of people. He was buried next to the tomb of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Dhaka University Central Mosque premises.
